I got this information recently from MTN and it seems they are trying to bring back voice SMS which was existing before but for some reasons best known to them, they took it off.

In this post, I wish to talk about MTN voice SMS package

What is MTN Voice SMS

MTN Voice SMS is a service that allow you send short audio messages to your family and friends on the MTN Network as easily as making a phone call. Voice SMS allows for an enriched message to be sent incorporating emotion of tone that you cannot use when sending normal text

Benefits of the MTN Voice SMS

Allow you record and send a voice message as easily as making a normal phone call
Your voice SMS recipient will not be charged for listening to your voice SMS.
No need to have an active voicemail box before you can send and receive message.
Allows for an enriched message to be sent incorporating aspects of emotion J and tone.

How Voice SMS Works

To use the voice SMS service, the A Party will have to do the following:
1. Dial * "recipient¿s phone number" and press send. Example: *08031234567 Send.
2. Once the above is dialled, you will be automatically connected to the service.
3. You can now follow the voice prompts, record a message up to 30 seconds before hanging up.
4. Upon recording the Voice message and hanging up the call, a voice SMS message notification will be delivered to the recipient ( B Party ) with information on how to retrieve the voice SMS. For example: I just sent you a voice SMS. Please dial 747 to listen to my message.
5. Remember you can only send voice SMS to only numbers on the MTN Network.

Q. What is MTN Voice SMS?

A. Voice SMS enables users to exchange voice messages. It is a fast way to send a short audio message to another customer that can be retrieved at the customer¿s convenience.

Q. Who can use the MTN Voice SMS?

A. All MTN Prepaid, ePostpaid and Postpaid customers can use the voice SMS.

Q. What benefit will I enjoy when using the MTN Voice SMS?

A. You will enjoy the following benefit:

You don¿t need to have an active voicemail box to receive a voice SMS
It allows user to record and send a voice message as easily as making a normal phone call
Voice SMS allows for an enriched message to be sent incorporating aspects of emotion and tone

Q. How much do I pay to use the MTN Voice SMS?

A. You will be charged N10 for each voice SMS you send with your MTN line.

Q. Will people I send voice SMS pay to listen to the message?

A. No, recipients (B-party) that you send voice SMS will not be charged for listening to your voice SMS.

Q. Can I send voice SMS to off-net numbers?

A . No you cannot send voice SMS to off-net and international numbers.

Q. Can I send voice SMS while roaming?

A. Yes, you can send and receive voice SMS while roaming.

Q. How does the voice SMS work?

A. To initiate a voice SMS to a B number, the A number will do the following:

Dial * "recipient¿s phone number" and press dial. for Example: *08031234567 Send.
Once the above is dialled, the customer will be automatically connected to the service.
S/he can follow the voice prompts, record a message up to 30 seconds and hang up.

Q. How do I know the Voice SMS has been sent to the recipient?

A. you will hear a voice prompt informing you that the message has been sent.

Q. How will the Voice SMS be delivered to the recipient?

A. Upon recording the Voice message and hanging up the call, a voice SMS message notification will be delivered to the recipient with information on how to retrieve the voice SMS. For example: I just sent you a voice SMS. Please dial 747 to listen to my message.

Q. Do I have the option to review and edit the voice message before it is sent to the recipient?

A. Yes, the system will provide customers with options to review/re-record/accept message before sending to the recipient.

Q. Can I send the Voice message to a group on my contact list?

A. Yes, you can schedule and send a voice SMS to a mailing list of up to twenty recipients at once.

Q. Can Voice SMS work on any handset?

A. Yes, Voice SMS message service will be compatible with all handset and devices without any additional configuration.

Q. Do I have to subscribe to the voice SMS service?

A. No, Voice SMS does not require any subscription or monthly fees.
