In the NGWA's position paper, Hydraulic Fracturing: Meeting the Nation's Energy Needs While Protecting Groundwater Resources, the Association discusses that poor water quality may not be a direct result from fracking. The study shows that water contamination and other drinking water and/or groundwater issues are instead the result of faulty casing installations, unsealed wells, poor management, accidents, and other instances where unsatisfactory practices or processes take place.

Sediment in the Passaic River is severely contaminated with pesticides, heavy metals, dioxin, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and other harmful contaminants from the industrial activity the river has experienced for more than a century. The majority of the contaminants are located in the lower eight miles of the river.

U.S. Army to Build Largest Solar Array at Arizona Base

The U.S. Army is about to construct a solar array at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., that will be the largest at a Department of Defense military installation, according to a DOD news release. The groundbreaking for the project at the base in southeastern Arizona is set for April 25.

The Chemical Safety Board will release volumes one and two of its investigative report on the Macondo well blowout during a June 5 public meeting in Houston. The April 20, 2010, explosion and fire aboard the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig killed 11 workers and caused a major oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
