Breaking News -- Official: Indian diplomat charged in maid case has left the U.S.

Devyani Khobragade, 39, who was indicted Thursday for allegedly lying to get her New York City housekeeper a work visa, has left the U.S., an American official told the Associated Press. The State Department had asked Khobragade to leave the country after granting a request for broader diplomatic immunity. She was a deputy counsel general at the Indian consulate in New York, where she arrived in September 2012.
